Our story

Kaivani Consulting was founded to bridge two fields that rarely intersect intentionally: legal expertise and instructional design.

`Thijiba Sinnathamby is a lawyer, educator, curriculum developer, and trainer whose work bridges legal practice, academic instruction, and community-based training. She currently serves as Professor and Program Coordinator of the Family Legal Services Provider (FLSP) program at Fanshawe College, where she teaches Substantive Family Law I and II and oversees program delivery. 

Alongside her work in legal education, Thijiba provides legal services in family law and estate matters through her firm, TSJ Law. Her practice includes negotiating and drafting domestic contracts, advising on parenting time and decision-making disputes, acting as a litigation guardian or Section 3 counsel for incapable persons, and serving as estate trustee during litigation in complex or high-conflict estate matters.

Earlier in her career, she served as Staff Lawyer and Lead Trainer for Ontario's Family Court Support Worker Program, designing legal education resources and delivering province-wide training on family law, family violence, risk assessment, and trauma-informed practice. Over more than a decade, she has developed curriculum, facilitated professional training, authored public legal education resources, and advised organizations on program design, service delivery, and access-to-justice initiatives — collaborating with legal professionals, post-secondary institutions, community organizations, government stakeholders, and public service agencies along the way.

Thijiba holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto and a Master of Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto, where her research focused on forced migration and war, the criminalization of racialized women, and ethical approaches to relationship-building with Indigenous communities. She earned her J.D. at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law and articled at a prominent boutique estate litigation firm in Toronto.

Kaivani Consulting exists because effective training changes outcomes. Whether supporting future legal professionals, frontline service providers, or community organizations, the quality of training shapes how confidently and competently people respond to complex situations. Through Kaivani, Thijiba designs and delivers workshops and develops resources for organizations, legal professionals, and community partners, spanning trauma-aware practice, family law, gender-based violence, Indigenous–Settler relationship-building, anti-racism, and systemic barriers in the justice system — approached through an equity-centered, practice-grounded lens.

By combining subject-matter expertise with trauma-informed, learner-centered instructional design, Kaivani Consulting helps organizations create practical, engaging, and impactful training programs that strengthen professional capacity and improve service delivery.
